"Beyul Khenpalung" lies in the lap of Mount Chhamlang (7,323 M.) in Ward No.-5, Silichong Village of Sankhuwasabha District. It is located in the Makalu Barun National Park area where three villages are located; Gauthala, Dobatak and Saisima. According to Kimdanti, long ago Buddhist followers took shelter here and Buddhist Guru Sri Padmasambhava also meditated in this cave. "Beyul Khenpalung" was historically named by the Buddhist guru Sri Padmasambhava around the seventh century.
Sherpas live here entirely. In the Sherpa language, "Beyul" means Hidden Valley, "Khenpa" means Titepati (kind of grass), and "Lung" generally means country. Experts say that it may be called "Beyul Khenpalung" because there is a lot of black pepper in this area, but the Sherpas know this place as "Ne Khenpalung". It is from the name of this place that the name of the cave where the Buddhist guru Sri Padmasambhava meditated came to be "Khenpalung Holy Cave". This cave is located in Dobatak village and it is considered to be a particularly important religious place of this place.
Many Buddhist devotees and Hindu pilgrims visit this area. Pilgrims especially come to see Khenpalung Holy Cave. By depicting this cave, they believe that the wishes of Mana will be fulfilled, such as; Desire for children, acquisition of wealth, recovery from snakebite, desire to renounce any caste etc. There is a saying that even if you perform Khenpalung only once in your life, you don't have to take it after death, but according to Dharma Guru Sri Padmasambhava, when a person is born in Kali Yuga, the beginning of a person will be from this Khenpalung. Before reaching the Khenpalung Holy Cave, pilgrims can visit the Deki Ksholing Monastery in Gauthala village. After visiting the Khenpalung Holy Cave, if there is time, the pilgrims go from Dobatak to Saisima village to visit the Dekshen Ksholing Monastery. Ever since humans settled in this area.
In this area, in the spring season, Ghonge Champ, Champ, Chimal and Laliguras bloom, so the pilgrims will not only be able to see the important religious places but also enjoy these natural beauties. Not only domestic tourists but also foreign tourists come here to see "Khenpalung Holy Cave".
